Burglar causes $3,000 worth of damage – to get $117

Desperate measures: Burglars ripped the door out of its frame at the Bermuda Sub Aqua Club located in Admiralty House Park yesterday. Despite the immense effort the thieves only escaped with $117 in cash and some half empty liquor bottles.

Over $3,000 worth of damage was caused when vandals ripped off the door of the Bermuda Sub Aqua Dive Club in an attempt to break into the building.

The culprits cut the phone line and the power lines so the alarm system was not activated and the security company did not receive the alert.

Chairman of the dive club Daron Skipper said: "The club was locked up on Wednesday night and [yesterday] we came in to find someone had broken in.

"It looked like they had used a crow bar and rip the entire door off including the frame, as it had a deadlock on it."

Mr. Skipper said the vandal stole the entire cash register, which included the float of $117, and four bottles of alcohol. Nothing else appeared to be missing and the interior of the club had no further damage.

Police arrived shortly after the damage was reported as well as the forensic department and Island Glass.

Mr. Skipper said: "I was really impressed with the speed that BTC and Island Glass displayed in rectifying the problem. The door is now replaced and every thing is in order."
