A car crashed through a wall on Harbour Road knocking it, a gate and a few steps over.

The owner of the property claimed despite similar accidents there in the past Government has done nothing to slow motorists down in the area.

The accident happened yesterday morning around 7 a.m. near Valley Road in Paget.

The female driver of the car was uninjured. The front of the vehicle was badly damaged.

The homeowner alleged the wall gets hit every few months. He claims speed bumps or "grippy asphalt" is needed to slow down the traffic.

The house is currently vacant.

"It always gets hit. There's a wall there on the other side of the telephone pole which gets knocked down every few months or so," the homeowner said.

"I have been talking to Government and Works and Engineering for five years to do something about maybe repaving the road with the real grippy asphalt. It will allow the car to grip better on the road.

"The road is slanted towards the harbour to allow the water to drain into the harbour. When you're heading west, it's just really slick there, you just slide out."

He continued: "I get bikes hitting the wall luckily they just hit the wall. This is the first time they went through the wall."

Government recently put in small yellow speed bumps to decrease speed on North Shore Road in Flatts Village. Similar protection is also in place on East Broadway and North Shore in Hamilton Parish near Cottage Hill.

The homeowner continued: "It's frustrating because Government has not acted. I am not sure if they're waiting for someone to die. It needs to be fixed.

"They keep rebuilding the Bermuda stone wall and it doesn't have a chance to go grey. It's always white because someone always takes out the wall.

"She actually took out the front gate of the house and the top of the steps. Government needs to do something about it."

Police yesterday issued a statement about the accident.

"Around 6.50 a.m. Wednesday, Police received a report of a single-vehicle damage-only road traffic collision on Harbour Road in Paget near the junction with Valley Road. Details about how the collision occurred are unclear at this time however, it appears that a car travelling along Harbour Road collided with a wall, ending up over the embankment.

"The driver was apparently uninjured. The car received front-end damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway."

A spokesman for Works and Engineering did not comment by press time.
