Computer problem hits Government

Technical difficulties struck the Government computer network yesterday, inconveniencing several departments while leaving others completely unaffected.

According a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Telecommunication, most of the disruptions were limited to Government's e-mail system.

While some departments, like the Department of Tourism, were unaffected, others faced more than just missing e-mails.

Magistrates' Court was left unable to accept payments for much of the day, while TCD was also hit by the disruption.

"The Information Technical Office actually went down to TCD to get a few of the computers operational," said the spokeswoman. "Even during the problems, we were still able to serve people."

While the spokeswoman could not say what the source of the problem was, she did say that all computer operations were up and running again by 3 p.m.
