Cordon to be imposed around Club Med
Roadblocks surrounding the former Club Med before its demolition will inhibit spectators from getting a good view.
The building is set to be demolished by implosion on Monday August 25 through 700 pounds of dynamite implanted throughout the structure the week before.
The explosives, which will be strategically placed by Dynamics, a subsidiary of DH Griffin Wrecking Company, will then remain in the hotel until the planned implosion. The site will be guarded by the Bermuda Police Service Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit and the Bermuda Regiment.
On the morning of the destruction, traffic restrictions will be instituted in the St. George's area for the safety of the motoring public but with a view to causing the minimum of disruption to traffic flow.
The following road junctions will be closed on the day of the implosion from 7 a.m. until noon:
The junction of Barry Road and Grenadier Lane, the junction of Old Military Road and Slippery Hill, the junction of Park Gates and St. George's Golf Club and the junction of Anchorage Road and Naval Tanks Hill.
The public is encouraged to avoid these areas during the stated times.
A Police statement released said that marine traffic will also be restricted during these same hours in the area of Fort St. Catherine.
Marine traffic will be prevented from anchoring or moving on the inside of the clearly marked 'cruise ship' channel on either side of the fort and may not tie up to any of the channel markers.
All mariners wishing to anchor off and observe the implosion are encouraged to drop anchor to the oceanside of the 'narrows' channel.
The public are asked to stay 1,000 feet away from the site of the implosion.
