CHARITY DINNER FOR MENTALLY ILL FNR Charity dinner for mentally ill A charity dinner is expected to raise thousands of dollars to help the mentally ill as well as further the education of young Bermudians.

The Bermuda Society of Interior Designers is holding its fundraising dinner on Saturday, October 28, at the Cafe Lido.

It is hoped about $4,000 will be raised to be split between the BSID's own scholarship scheme and the Bermuda Mental Health Foundation.

Money for the Foundation will go towards helping to equip the group's first communal home for people with mental health needs, which will soon be ready to take its first residents.

Ms Sue Bendell, a BSID member who has overseen the refurbishment of the home, said: "This has been a chance for the people in our industry to work together as well as have a good time.'' Tickets are still available and people wanting more information should call Ms Lorretta Ycas on 295 5137.

FINED $615 FOR TRAFFIC OFFENCES CTS Fined $615 for traffic offences A 19-year-old Devonshire man was fined over $600 in Magistrates' Court this week for seven separate charges involving an auxiliary cycle.

Owen Darby of Tribe Road Number One, Devonshire pleaded guilty to failing to stop at a stop sign, disobeying a traffic sign, having a broken throttle cable and defective front brakes on his cycle, riding an unlicensed cycle, having an obscured licence plate and speeding at 55 kph along Harbour Road.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. William Francis fined the man $615 in total for the seven offences which occurred at different times.

`FAMILY REUNION' SET FOR TOMORROW CLB `Family reunion' set for tomorrow A "family reunion'' will be held in the wake of the Million Man March which has held in Washington D.C. on October 16.

Spokesman for the Million Man March Coalition of Bermuda, Mr. Rolfe Commissiong, said the meeting is being held for men, women and children who wish to share the experiences of the men who witnessed the historical event.

The meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m. tomorrow at St. Paul's Centennial Hall and will feature several speakers including Opposition MP Mr. Nelson Bascome, entrepreneur Mr. George Scott, developer Mr. Rodney Smith and guest speaker Dr. Eva Hodgson.

There is no charge for admission and light refreshments will be served.

PEMBROKE MAN STABBED IN CHEST CRM Pembroke man stabbed in chest A 45-year-old Pembroke man became the latest victim of a stabbing.

The man told Police three men entered his Princess Street apartment around 4.15 a.m. on Sunday.

He said he was stabbed in the chest by one of the men following an argument.

The man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

Police said they were searching for the suspects in the incident.

Police also said they dealt with 40 crimes committed during the past weekend against property, which included house break-ins, burglary, shoplifting and 14 cycle thefts.
