Dog training centre gets seal of approval
successful.
Qualified dog handler Mr. Rawn Tucker's scheme at St. Augustine Road has been approved by the Development Applications Board.
But planning permission is for two years only.
The architect of the project, who did not wish to be named, explained Mr.
Tucker's reasons for the development: "Mr. Tucker has responsibility for security of various establishments, commercial as well as resort, and he needs a place to keep his dogs. As a qualified dog handler he will also be teaching people how to handle their dogs.'' In addition, Mr. Tucker planned to provide a place for people, who are going overseas, to house their pet dogs, the architect added.
The land at St. Augustine Road is owned by Mrs. Irene Hill. Mr. Tucker is the tenant. Last year, there was some controversy over the plans.
Mrs. Hill said she received a shock when she thought someone had applied to develop her property without her knowledge or consent.
She told The Royal Gazette : "I don't know where he got the authority from, even going through the Development Applications Board.'' Now, however, the project architect said the problems had been resolved and Mrs. Hill was in agreement with the current plans.
He said the kennels would feature a weather-proof 5' by 5' shelter, and a 5' by 15'' run. "There will also be a training pitch where Mr. Tucker can teach people how to handle dogs.'' The DAB's planning permission for the scheme expires on March 8, 1997.
It has stipulated the buildings should be removed after that date, and the land restored to its former condition -- unless the DAB grant an extension.
