Dr. Brown sends congratulatory letters to US presidential candidates
Premier Ewart Brown has hedged his bets by sending congratulatory letters to both Republican and Democrat presidential challengers.
Dr. Brown told Democrat Barack Obama that his campaign of hope had inspired people all over the world but he expressed surprise at his meteoric rise.
He wrote: "When we met last fall at the Congressional Black Caucus Weekend in Washington, D.C., I unsurprisingly wished you well; but at that moment I never could have imagined you would politically ascend so quickly. It's verification of your prowess as a leader."
And he told Republican John McCain that his come-from-behind victory during primary season was a testament to his tenacity as a legislator and leader.
He added: "I appreciated the time we spent over breakfast last September during your visit to Bermuda.
"I hope you will visit us again once the campaigning is complete in November.
"By then I'm certain you and your family would welcome some relaxation."
