Driver had cannabis in car
A 43-year-old man was fined $1,000 after admitting possessing cannabis.
Magistrates' Court heard from Crown counsel Takiyah Burgess that on September 1, Richard Smith was seen driving at a high speed on Church Street, in Hamilton.
He turned onto Court Street and the car finally came to a stop on the corner of Court and Dundonald Street as plain-clothed Police officers approached him.
The officers noticed that his eyes were glazed and bloodshot. They also noticed that he was fidgeting with the glove compartment of his car. Using a Police sniffer dog, they searched the car and found a bag containing material resembling cannabis.
When asked about the contents, Smith said: "The drug is mine." He was then arrested and the contents of the package were analysed and found to contain 1.24 grams of cannabis.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Smith $1,000.
