The manager of Elbow Beach has quashed rumours the hotel is closing for renovations.

Frank Stocek, general manager of the Mandarin Oriental resort, said the Paget hotel will not undergo major works until at least 2010.

Elbow Beach celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, but Mr. Stocek said the only changes in the near future would be the updating of soft furnishings.

"There are no major renovations happening, it's business as normal," he said yesterday.

"We do have plans for renovations. We have a lot of designs going on for our main building, and when the time is right we will do it. But bearing in mind the current economic climate and the design stage we are at, the board has decided not to do anything this year or next year."

Mr. Stocek added: "We will do small stuff with soft refurbishing this winter, but the big renovation will only take place when the time is right."
