Forecasters keep watch on closing storm
the Atlantic.
Hurricane Isaac continues to edge closer to the Island. At present it is more than 1,300 miles to the southeast, and to the south, Tropical Storm Joyce is edging towards the Caribbean.
As of last night, Isaac's closest point of approach was expected to be 435 nautical miles east-southeast on Friday afternoon, with winds of 90 miles gusting up to 105 miles per hour.
Bermuda Weather Service duty meteorlogist Declan O'Connell said that at that distance the impact on the Island would be negligible. But he added the category one hurricane could come further west before it turns north or could turn north sooner.
And he said Tropical Storm Joyce was less of a concern at present. It is 2,090 miles away to the south east, with winds of 45 knots and gusts to 55 knots.
