Fundraising evening for fire couple

Friends of a couple who lost their house and almost everything inside to a fire are hosting a fundraising evening to help raise the thousands of dollars they will need to rebuild.

Tracy and Jason Bracewell watched as flames demolished the Warwick home they had bought in 1994 in the early hours of April 25 this year.

Mrs. Bracewell had been asleep at the time and was saved by the insistence of her two pet dogs — Jack and Riley — that she get up.

When she opened the bedroom door the fire, which had started in the bathroom only feet across from her room, shot out and she fled.

Little could be recovered from the charred remains and the construction costs could run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

On Sunday night, friends have organised a concert, raffles and food from 6 p.m. to midnight at Riddell's Bay Golf and Country Club.

Called Rocky Ledge (after their house) Revival, Mrs. Bracewell said she was just so thankful to everyone who has helped.

"We have got a lot of raffle tickets which is great and really, really nice. All the money will go towards rebuilding our house," she said.

"The roof and everything is going to come down. We were going to open the living room a bit, but we have to wait. We are still waiting on planning permission and the fire report.

"We are still bopping around from place to place and looking for a one bedroom house."

Sunday's event will feature nine DJ's including Bitsy, DJ D'Nice and DJ Chubb while other entertainment will be provided by Mia Chambray.

Food will be provided by the Beach and tickets which are $20 can be bought at Docksider, The Bermuda Bistro at the Beach, Hang it All at the Washington Mall and on the door.
