Govt's Management Services Dept could face the axe

A Government team charged with improving efficiency and cutting out waste could soon find itself surplus to requirements.

It's understood a recommendation to abolish Management Services, which has a staffing compliment of ten people, but is currently at half strength, has gone to Cabinet.

A Government spokesman said: "The Head of the Civil Service has advised that discussions regarding the functions of the Department of Management Services are ongoing and consultation is taking place with the staff and the Bermuda Public Services' Union (BPSU)."

However BPSU head Ed Ball refused to comment about the move last night.
