Hamilton area telephone service cut for an hour
An investigation is underway after problems with a telephone exchange cut many phone lines in Hamilton, Pembroke and Devonshire yesterday.
The Bermuda Telephone Company detected a problem at its Hamilton exchange at 10.28 a.m. and BTC engineers managed to fix the problem an hour later. An investigation into what cause the breakdown is now underway.
Police Spokesman Dwayne Caines told The Royal Gazette there were no issues with the emergency 911 as it is on a different operating system.
Transact Internet Services reported that they had no Internet issues during this interruption.
General Manager Bill Dickinson said: "We were unable to receive any calls through our office however this was a voice problem not a data problem and to my knowledge, we have had successful transmissions with our Internet services. All of our e-mails and Internet services have been working fine."
However, FKBnet Internet Service said it did have issues with 'phone and their data services.
Technician Derek Leller said: "All our phones went down and customers could not connect. This issue started with us on Thursday night."
