Picture this: bright lights, cameras flashing everywhere and stars to the left and right draped in designer duds and jewellery with fans screaming their names.

Sounds like a scene right out of Hollywood doesn't it?

Well, Hollywood will meet Union Square at the premiere of Michael Jackson's film 'This Is It' at Liberty Theatre next Wednesday.

A gala event is planned featuring a pink carpet — Bermuda Music Festival style — and a Department of Tourism backdrop against which celebrities will pose for photos.

The pink carpet will see the likes of Quincy Jones, Patti Austin, James Ingram and Siedah Garrett, co-writer of the pop star's hit song, 'Man in The Mirror'. Judith Hill, who performed at the late artist's memorial and is in the movie, will also be in attendance as will Cathy Hughes, media mogul and owner of RadioOne.

Festival producer Rock Newman said: "The Liberty Theatre got the rights to showcase the premiere of Michael Jackson's 'This Is It' movie. It's the night of their grand reopening.

"When I found that out, I called them up and told them that maybe we would do some things together. So we met and I found out how big the theatre was and what they were doing.

"I had subsequent communication with Quincy and his staff and several other artists and they are committed to attending and walking the pink carpet."

Mr. Newman explained the street will be closed to traffic and it will feel like a real Hollywood movie premiere.

"They have the movie and we're bringing the stars and the sizzle," added Mr. Newman.

"People are having grand premieres all over the world [but] perhaps none will have the collection of individuals who were friends and professionally involved with Michael the way that Bermuda is going to have.

"By the time the street is blocked off and the lights are up, it's going to be a star-studded event. And because Bermuda is going to have it, I am really proud to be orchestrating it.

"It's going to be very interesting to see these people that have not seen this movie but who were involved so closely in Michael's life. To see them all together and what their reaction is going to be. It's going to be something fascinating. Fascinating to be able to observe it."

Walks along the pink carpet begin at 6.30 p.m. with cocktails. Screening begins at 8 p.m.
