House of Assembly should be on TV – Gibbons
Shadow Education Minister Grant Gibbons has called for House of Assembly sittings to be televised on CITV.
Dr Gibbons said the move would bring the Island further into line with other jurisdictions, as he applauded recent developments such as the introduction of Hansard and laptop-use in the Lower Chamber.
Speaking in the Motion to Adjourn yesterday, the former United Bermuda Party leader also suggested streaming House proceedings on the internet so that the public can later play back particular speeches.
He said some MPs believe the two or three sentences summarising their remarks in the newspaper don't represent the full extent of their speeches.
Also during the Motion to Adjourn, UBP leader Kim Swan repeated the Opposition's call for the politics to be taken out of tourism, by setting up a Tourism Authority run by industry professionals rather than Government.
Mr Swan also recommended new Tourism Minister Patrice Minors look at developing Hamilton waterfront and turning White's Island into a tourism destination.
