Man admits having 30 grams of cannabis in hotel room
A man allegedly involved with the Parkside gang admitted to possessing more than 30 grams of cannabis in a hotel room at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.
Collin Hendrickson, 18, of Dundonald Street in Pembroke, appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday and admitted he had the drugs scattered around the hotel room on New Year's Eve.
He also admitted to having rizla smoking papers to be used in connection with the drug and smoking cannabis on the same date.
However, he denied the drugs were intended for supply.
The court heard that Hendrickson was at the hotel with friends around 8.20 p.m. on Thursday.
Officers retrieved a search warrant under the misuse of drugs act to search the premises and immediately noticed there was a smoky haze coming from the room.
Officers saw five men inside including Hendrickson who was sitting on a pull out bed in the room. He was seen putting something down the crotch of his pants before running to hide in the hotel's bathroom.
Police followed after him and in their search found a plastic bag containing three other bags with a plant like material.
They also found another plastic bag, a number of homemade cigarettes and cigarette butts around the room.
The court heard that the men all appeared to have red, glazed eyes and seemed relaxed despite Police presence.
They also refused to comment on the drugs.
One of the alleged men involved was found with $6,850 cash in his possession, while Hendrickson had $1,513.
The money and drugs were seized and the cannabis was taken to a Government analyst for testing.
Tests showed that the clear plastic bag found on Hendrickson contained 19.54 grams of cannabis.
Another plastic bag found in the room contained 6.9 grams of cannabis, while four brown paper twists contained 4.31 grams.
Hendrickson apologised for the offence saying: "I would just like to say all the drugs are mine.
"I do have a smoking problem. I would like to apologise for having illegal drugs in this country.
"I would also like to say I was the only one using the cannabis and it was all for my personal use," he added.
Others in the hotel room, including Jahkeil Samuels, 24, Kenneth Caines, 24, Dominique Daniels, 17, and Aaron Foggo, 20, denied possessing cannabis, the rizla papers and smoking the drug.
Samuels, of Loyal Hill Pass, was solely charged with allowing cannabis to be used in a hotel room registered under his name. He denied the charge.
Both Hendrickson and Samuels were remanded in Police custody, while the remaining defendants were released on $5,000 bail with one surety.
They will appear back in Magistrates' Court on February 19.
Hendrickson was also before the court yesterday on an indictable matter.
He was not required to enter a plea as the matter must be heard in the Supreme Court at a later date.
Hendrickson is accused of trespassing on a home on Curving Avenue on June 17 stealing $13,600 worth of cash, jewellery and other goods.
On the same date he is accused of unlawfully wounding a man, committing aggravated burglary and causing grievous bodily harm.
At plea court, Crown counsel Larissa Burgess refused bail for the trespassing offences. She said Hendrickson was "believed to be involved with the Parkside group" and claimed the teenager "was likely to offend".
He will reappear for that matter on January 18.
