Anthony Burgess, of Cottage Hill has admitted possessing the cannabis but pleaded not guilty to possessing it with intent to supply.

Det. Con. Clinard Burgess told the court that on January 20 he and Det. Con.

Shannon Wolfe were on duty travelling north on Fort Hill Road in Devonshire when they saw Burgess in another car approaching the junction of Alexander Road.

Acting on a tip, the officers stopped Burgess and found a plastic bag with 23 envelopes of cannabis and $120 in cash in the car.

Yesterday in Magistrates' Court, Burgess said the drugs were for his own personal use and added that he is an excessive user smoking three to four "joints'' a day.

The trial continues on September 26 before Magistrate the Wor. Edward King.
