Man banned from driving for two years
Violating a driving ban has earned a Southampton man disqualification until two years from yesterday.
Three days after being banned from driving all motor vehicles Giovanni Carmichael was caught on Middle Road, Warwick while under the influence of alcohol and disobeying a traffic sign.
The 20-year-old Whaling Hill resident was watched by Police as he rode an orange auxilliary cycle through a stop sign just after midnight on Monday, June 30.
Yesterday Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Carmichael $150 and two demerit points for disobeying a traffic sign and $500 and seven demerit points for driving while disqualified.
Carmichael was also handed an $800 fine, 12 demerit points and an additional 12-month disqualification for driving while under the influence.
The disqualification will run consecutive to the one he received on June 27 when had also accumulated 12 demerit points after he admitted riding an unlicensed and unsured vehicle and failing to give correct information to Police.
At his second arrest, Carmichael was taken back to Hamilton Police Station where a test revealed his blood alcohol level was 137mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood. The legal limit is 80mg per 100 ml of blood.
Officers asked him if he had been taking medicine or drinking that night and Carmicheal replied: "I only had one Heineken."
