Man blames police for road accident
when he collided with an unmarked Police car.
Magistrates' Court heard that cycle rider Dean Henderson crushed his leg in the accident.
The car had been in the middle of a convoy of Police cars travelling south on Glebe Road at about 8.30 p.m. last September 5.
Prosecutor Sgt. Earl Kirby claimed Henderson pulled out of Victor Scott School without looking and slammed into the car, driven by P.c. Robin Hollinsid.
P.c. Hollinsid testified that he skidded on the wet road in trying to avoid Henderson.
Henderson came off his Vespa scooter and landed in the road, breaking his leg in two places.
But he claimed he looked both ways before turning right onto Glebe Road. He saw the first car in the convoy "speed by''. He also saw P.c.
Hollinsid's car, but it looked far enough away to turn onto the road safely.
However, Henderson claimed that as he made the turn, P.c. Hollinsid sped up and was all of a sudden in his path. "The car skidded out of control and slid into me,'' he testified. "The road was clear when I made the turn.'' Defence lawyer Mr. Frederick Wade submitted P.c. Hollinsid sped up after receiving a directive from an officer as he approached the school.
But P.c. Yvonne Ricca, who had been driving the third car, testified she saw Henderson pull out of the school driveway without looking.
Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp said she would hand down a judgment tomorrow morning (Thursday) at 9 a.m.
