Mandela birthday celebration event

Imagine Bermuda 2009 is celebrating Nelson Mandela's 90th Birthday this Friday at City Hall.The event is being held in the spirit of the rallies — which are part of Bermuda's heritage — when families or neighbourhoods came together to build houses and other facilities or hold sporting activities or picnics.Organisers said this occasion will not only honour this significant milestone of global icon Mr. Mandela, but will provide an opportunity to highlight some of Bermuda's own elders who have made contributions to the community.

Imagine Bermuda 2009 is celebrating Nelson Mandela's 90th Birthday this Friday at City Hall.

The event is being held in the spirit of the rallies — which are part of Bermuda's heritage — when families or neighbourhoods came together to build houses and other facilities or hold sporting activities or picnics.

Organisers said this occasion will not only honour this significant milestone of global icon Mr. Mandela, but will provide an opportunity to highlight some of Bermuda's own elders who have made contributions to the community.

Imagine Bermuda is inviting and encouraging the community to attend this event, which starts at 5 p.m., and enjoy the music and poetry provided. Refreshments will also be available.

Organisations working with Imagine Bermuda 2009 on this event include: ABIC, BEC., BIU, BPSU, BUT, the Chamber of Commerce, HEB, Barritts, Coco Reef Hotel, Goslings, Marketplace and M.E.F. Group.
