MAWI staff donate $800 to Red Cross
Staff at the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute have donated almost $800 to the Bermuda Red Cross (BRC) Hurricane Relief Fund for Haiti.
The money was raised last October through a series of events in honour of Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) and collected from employees, visitors and clients.
Staff chose to donate funds to Haiti because it reflected the theme of MHAW "Making Mental Health a Global Priority: Scaling up Services through Citizen Advocacy and Action".
"Last year's theme reminded our staff to think globally and act locally," said Kijana Robinson, Special Projects Technician. "We hosted a luncheon and arranged other activities at MWI in order to collect donations. We all agreed the funds would be well-used by the people of Haiti."
Helen Wicks, BRC Administrator, said: "We are very grateful to staff, clients and visitors from MWI for their kind donation.
"These funds will be used to cover the cost of immediate relief supplies, such as personal hygiene kits, kitchen kits, baby kits, water and medicines.
"Our International Federation has also sent in regional intervention teams, specializing in everything from water sanitation to education."
