A mother-of-three is "disgusted" after someone dropped piles of garbage and old furniture on a plot where she is building her home.

The woman who went to check on the construction of her house yesterday morning said she was greeted with "big, black trash bags filled with smelly, dirty garbage". There were also large pieces of furniture like a dresser and adult sized bicycle scattered around the Devonshire property.

The woman, who asked not to be named, believes the culprits were truck drivers trying to forgo fees at some of the Island's quarry's.

Instead they just dumped their trash anywhere, including on the site where she is building a home for her family.

She said: "I am just absolutely disgusted because surely Bermudians are all in the same boat. We are all in a recession, we are all struggling, we are all trying to pay the bills. What makes them think I am able to take up their responsibility and hire a trucker to take their trash and pay a Government quarry to accept it? "I have three kids, I pay a mortgage, I am trying to get ahead by building a property for the children and myself and this is what I am having to deal with."

She told The Royal Gazette the act was "mean spirited" and not in the best interest of the community. She added: "If the Government has issued a fee the (culprits) need to take that up with the Government, they don't need to take it out on their neighbour."

Her partner said: "It's just a hindrance now. The construction site is full of crap and people had to work around it all day. They couldn't put the truck in the right spot and it stinks really badly."

Police heard their complaint yesterday and were able to get workers off Government's Hustle Truck to pick the trash up today, he said.

"I just want to let the public know they need to be aware."
