More volunteers sought for tomorrow's KBB cleanup

Keep Bermuda Beautiful is hosting its annual clean up on Saturday and they are asking for more volunteers.

The organisation currently has 200 volunteers lined up to pick up trash and is asking the public to join in and if possible identify a new littered location in their area.

Students and staff of Elliot Primary will participate on Friday afternoon to help KBB.

Approximately 300 students and teachers will be picking up litter along Hermitage Road, Vesey Street, and nearby Penhurst Park.

A press statement issued by KBB stated: "Students can receive credit for Community Service hours. School groups studying environmental issues or learning about community service and being good citizens are participating.

"Church groups are focusing on the area around their churches. Clubs and associations are joining in for a few hours of work in the morning and then gathering for a group lunch somewhere to make a day's outing.

"Neighbours are joining together to tackle their street. There are all sorts of ways for people to participate in this annual event."

Lindo's and The MarketPlace stores are offering blue recycle bags and black trash bags at discount prices.

A spokesperson for KBB added: "We are urging people to form their own group of friends, neighbours or co-workers. Choose a littered area on your street, on the railway trail or another favourite spot, call KBB to register your spot, or ask KBB to assign a location for your group.

"Get out there for a few hours on Saturday, or Sunday, if you prefer, and pick up litter.

"To potential volunteers, remember to separate the 'T.A.G.' items into blue recycle bags (tin, aluminium and glass). Rubbish and plastic bottles go into the black trash bags."
