A paedophile is at large after escaping while on day release at Bermuda College.

David Franklin Burrows — jailed for six years in 2003 after twice being convicted of having sex with girls under the age of 14 — was housed at the Transitional Living Center.

The Department of Corrections yesterday issued a press release saying Burrows is deemed unlawfully at large as of Wednesday, April 8, when he was last seen attending classes at the college.

People are urged to look out for the 27-year-old: a 5-feet 9-inches man with a light brown complexion, weighing 160 pounds with black braided hair and dark brown eyes.

In May 2003, a teenaged girl told a court how Burrows had sex with her on the couch of his home four or five times over a period of two months when she was 13 and he was 19 or 20 in the summer of 2001.

He was found guilty of that offence and jailed for six years despite claiming he had only played football, gone swimming and biking with the youngster.

In July 2002, he was sentenced to two and a half years for having sex with a girl under 14. While on bail for that matter, he also fatherered twins with a 15-year-old girl.

The six-year sentence was handed out while he was already behind bars for the two and a half year-sentence.

In 2002, he also received a six-month sentence after admitting assaulting two Police officers by punching and biting.
