Pizza delivery staff on alert after second gang attack
delivery staff.
On Sunday a terrified teenager was robbed of $70 after a gang held a machete against his neck.
They then smashed a baseball bat against his ribs, before fleeing.
The attack occurred around two months after a girl -- also working for The Rams Head Inn -- was ambushed by robbers wielding a baseball bat.
She was so traumatised by her experience near the Pembroke Community Club, she later quit her job.
Manageress, Mrs. Cathy Ferreira, said her staff had been alarmed by the attacks in the Spanish Point area.
"Some of our drivers are being put off from going there,'' she said.
She added there had also been two attempted robberies on delivery staff elsewhere in Pembroke, including Parsons Road.
The latest incident occurred at around 10 p.m. after the 19-year-old was called out on a fake delivery to Spanish Heights Apartments.
He knocked on the door -- but no one there had ordered a pizza.
Around five youths, lurking nearby, then set upon the youngster, grabbing his face, and holding a machete against him.
With the blade grazing his skin, they forced him to hand over cash, and then lashed out with a baseball bat.
The blow badly bruised the teenager's ribs. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, but later allowed home.
Mrs. Ferreira said the youngster was now taking a few days off to recover from his ordeal.
"He was very shaken by what happened. There was absolutely no reason for him to have been hit by a baseball bat. He had already handed over the cash.'' Mrs. Ferreira is almost certain the same gang was involved in the two robberies in the Spanish Point area.
"They both involved baseball bats, and were very similar.'' she said, adding the robbers had also taken the pizzas.
