Plans submitted for waterfront complex
Spectacular views of Hamilton harbour are certain to command top dollar for property developer William Cox.
Mr. Cox, president of Waterloo Properties has submitted an application to the Department of Planning for phase two of the Pearman Watlington's (PW) waterfront development.
The plan is to build 23 two-bedroom dwellings, two two-storey office buildings, a two-storey retail/restaurant complex and underground car and cycle parking facilities.
Anxious to get on with the project Mr. Cox said he hopes to start construction as soon as the Development Applications Board gives the green light.
Mr. Cox explained that phase one has already been completed, and includes the new Miles supermarket, and two main office blocks containing several Zurich Group companies and Stockton Reinsurance Ltd.
Mr. Cox said that they had already received approval for 18 units, but they had worked with Planning to increase the number to 23.
Of the new units, 15 will be on the waterfront and eight will be located on top of the new office buildings which will encompass some 40,000 square feet of executive space.
Also included in the plan is the relocation of the PW's Marine Centre, which will have a restaurant on top.
The gas station will be incorporated into the 70-berth dock which has already been approved.
Mr. Cox also explained that the proposed car parking facilities were designed to accommodate the expected expansion of traffic from the Hamilton Princess' expanding convention business.
He also said that demolition had begun on the old Miles supermarket building and said he hoped to start building as soon as permission was granted.
