detectives, that is.

In the November issue, free with tomorrow's edition of The Royal Gazette , senior writer Elizabeth Harvey investigates who Bermuda's private eyes are and what they get up to.

And while the reality is far removed from the glamourised Hollywood image, she discovers that the Island's private investigators probably know more about what really goes on behind Bermuda's closed doors than anyone else, especially when it comes to corporate fraud and espionage, and extra-marital affairs.

November's 56-page issue also features RG's annual Travel special. This year, the focus is on action vacations and the spirit of adventure. RG writers take to the open water by kayak and raft, to the road by mountain bike and to the open country by horseback in a range of features that takes readers to California, Mexico, Hawaii, Canada and Scotland.

The issue also features the current Bostelmann Paints For Beebe joint exhibition at the National Gallery and the Bermuda Aquarium and Zoo. The exhibition spotlights the work of German artist Else Bostelmann, who painted many of the deep sea discoveries of William Beebe. Beebe's dives in the bathysphere off Bermuda captured the imagination of the world more than 60 years ago.

Elsewhere in the magazine, top DJ Younguls spins the answers to I-Spy, Piers Plowden reviews a special selection of books for Christmas and RG chef Joe Gibbons comes up with some mouthwatering salmon recipes.
