Rubber Duck Derby raises at least $120,000

The thirteenth annual Rubber Duck Derby was unlucky for some, but extremely lucky for others.With spa days, grocery vouchers, electrical and sporting goods up for grabs, Friends of Hospice sold more tickets for individual prizes than ever before. This year Friends of Hospice aimed to raise $150,000 for Agape House, the Island's only hospice offering palliative care for the terminally ill.Linda Smith of event sponsors Belco said: "Ticket sales were very good and so far we think we've raised between $120-$130,000, which is really good considering the current economic conditions.

"The corporations were very supportive this year, as always, but we also sold more individual tickets than ever before."

The Rubber Duck Derby took place in the waters off Ordnance Island, St. George's, on Sunday. The little yellow flotilla competed in four themed races in a 40-yard dash the Pamper Me race, Youth race, Family race, and Corporate race.
