Sandys man had heroin and drug equipment

A Sandys man was sentenced to a month in prison after he was caught with heroin and drug equipment.

Quinton Wade, 46, of George's Bay Lane, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to possessing drug equipment and diamorphine better known as heroin and violently resisting arrest.

Crown Counsel Cindy Clarke told the court that at around 9 a.m. on December 16 last year, Police saw Wade standing in a Dundonald Street parking lot with a group of men.

Officers said he started to panic when he saw Police, looking around before quickly walking away with his right hand in his right front pocket.

The officers approached Wade and told him that they were going to search him.

In his right pocket, the officers found a small white piece of tile, a small mirror and a razor blade. Believing the items to be drug equipment, they tried to continue searching Wade, but he began to flail his arms and kick at the officers.

After using Captor spray to detain Wade, officers found a small plastic twist in his right hand.

Lab tests later found the twist to contain 0.05 grams of heroin, while both the mirror and razor showed trace amounts of the drug.

Wade had been scheduled to appear in Magistrates' Court on July 14, but failed to attend. Yesterday, he told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that he had forgotten about the date.

After pleading guilty to all three charges, he told the court that he had nothing else to say. Mr. Warner sentenced Wade to ten days' imprisonment for having the drug equipment, and 30 days' each for the heroin possession and resisting arrest.

All three sentences were ordered to run concurrently.
