Senator Brown issues apology to VRA
A Government Senator has issued a retraction and apology to the Voters' Rights Association for "mis-representing their position".
During a Motion in the Senate, Sen. Walton Brown said: "Organisations such as the VRA and a British Parliamentary committee have looked at the electoral system. "They have looked at a number of issues and they have made the point long-term residents can't get the right to vote."
Last night he said: "During Monday's debate in the Senate on my Take Note motion on democracy and Bermuda's electoral system, I erroneously identified the Voters' Rights Association as one of two organisations that had issued a call for long-term residents to be granted the right to vote.
Through this medium I would like to formally retract that attribution and apologise to the VRA for mis-representing their position.
"The only organisation that has called for some long-term residents to be granted the vote is the Foreign Affairs Committee of the UK Parliament, which has called for that vote to be granted to all UK Citizens in Bermuda who have met a residency requirement."
