Shopping promotion results in $8,000 for local charities
Charities pocketed more than $8,000 thanks to individuals who took part in the Gibbons charity shopping days.
According to Jennifer Burland Adams, of the Centre on Philanthropy, the shopping days on December 4 and 18 raised $8,150 for some of their 400 client charities.
Mrs. Adams said it was a great deal for all parties involved, adding: "I think people always like a bargain, especially when they are going to be making lots of purchases and in a time when money is tighter.
"So to pair philanthropy with shopping discounts was a match made in retail heaven."
Gibbons & Company was equally as impressed with the partnership, said CEO Paula Clarke.
"The Gibbons Company Charity Fridays campaign, which began five years ago, provides an easy way for people to contribute to charities at Christmas and throughout the year."
Throughout the year, Gibbons have supported events for charities including the Women's Resource Centre, Bermuda Red Cross, Breast Cancer Awareness, Committee of 25 and the Sunshine League.
