Somerset in for new Police station

The Ministry of Works and Engineering has applied to move the current Sandys Post Office out of the Police station building to allow room for modernisation and expansion.

The new Post Office will be based in a former dance studio at the Armoury Building, Mangrove Bay Road, Sandys.

Minister of Works and Engineering Leonard Gibbons said last week: "It has been said that Somerset has the worst Police station on the Island.

"If this application is approved, it will mean that we can renovate and improve the Police station while the new Post Office will be modern and have the advantage of the car parking space at the Armoury Building.'' Mr. Gibbons added that it was hoped approval from the Development Applications Board would be granted for work on the Police station to start early in the new year.
