Spirit sits and waits for the wind in a world without horizon

The Spirit of Bermuda is currently heading towards Bermuda as part of the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge. This is the latest despatch report from the sloop:

This morning was beautiful. Without a single ripple anywhere in sight, there was no discernible difference between the sea and the sky. No horizon, as if the ship was floating in a pale blue void.

These are not ideal racing conditions however and today saw us slip to fourth place on corrected time, still maintaining second place on the water. With all of our instruments reading zero, we lash the helm amidships and watch for breeze.

We're eating well though, with four Mahi Mahi caught since noon yesterday. Fresh ingredients on day 16 are a blessing and we are grateful. After lunch the whole crew went swimming next to the ship in 12,000 feet of still, blue water salvation from the heat, and what would be monotony, if we allowed it to be.
