Staff club open again
on the weekend -- but it is under new management.
The Royal Gazette understands Mr. Brian Alkon's Bermuda Cuisine was fired as the club's management company and is now planning legal action against its owners, who include Elbow Beach Hotel resident manager Mr. Perry Robinson and the head of the resort's development company Mr. John Jefferis. The club, in the rear of Elbow, was a popular night spot for hotel workers, their guests and a number of outside members. It stays open from 10 p.m. until 3 a.m.
offering pool tables and live entertainment.
Mr. Alkon said this week he did not understand the sacking, which was apparently over bookkeeping matters.
He had turned the club into a highly profitable nightclub, paying off all its debts.
Some 500 people filled it on weekends, he said. And one third of all profits went back to the hotel to be used for the benefit of employees.
Mr. Robinson declined to comment except to say the club had closed briefly over the weekend, but re-opened yesterday.
He denied the closure was over the departure of Bermuda Cuisine.
