Students make great strides through the Mirrors programme
Sandys Secondary Middle School students are on the way to reaching their full potential after successfully completing the Mirrors Programme.
Fifty-eight students took part in a new three-day training programme called 'Coaching for Success', run by the Ministry of Culture and Social Rehabilitation.
The children were taught to set goals, improve their confidence and self-esteem, how to speak in class, better their attitudes and advance their grades.
Last Wednesday, they were praised for the achievement at a ceremony at Willowbank Resort in Sandys.
Social Rehabilitation Minister Neletha Butterfield said: "Students who choose to do the programme can achieve more motivation to succeed at school.
"(They can) improve social skills and self-confidence that will help them get and keep employment, (get) higher exam results than they are currently expected to get and increased responsibility for their learning and their school."
The initiative — aimed at helping students achieve their full potential — is the newest component of the successful Mirrors youth empowerment programme for young people aged 25 and under.
'Coaching for Success' was offered to students at Sandys Secondary Middle School and 60 students at Whitney Institute, who will begin training next week.
The programme begins with an 'opportunity day' where children can test out the programme, take part in character building exercises and reflect on the climate at their school. It ends with an eight-month follow through component.
