Suspected drugs mule in court
divert to Bermuda appeared in court yesterday charged with drugs offences.
Diane Margarita Harvey Rennock appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday and was charged with importing cocaine, possessing cocaine intended for supply, and handling cocaine which was intended for supply.
She was brought to court after spending several days in King Edward VII Hospital following the incident aboard an American Airlines flight from Jamaica to New York.
Rennock, dressed in a casual T-shirt and jeans shorts and wearing sandals, did not have to plead to the charges.
The 34-year-old Jamaican's home address is not known.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded her in custody for two weeks until paperwork relevant to the case is complete.
Mr. Warner explained the amount of cocaine she had allegedly swallowed -- 457 grams worth $118,000 on the streets of Bermuda -- required a Supreme Court trial "with judge and jury''.
"You're not required to plead to this charge in this court, but the process is started,'' he added.
Rennock was taken from the flight last Wednesday to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where she was treated in the Intensive Care Unit.
The American Airlines flight took off for New York within an hour of discharging Rennock.
