Teenager's leg broken in 'bike robbers' encounter
A teenager suffered a broken leg when he was allegedly run over by two robbers riding a motorbike.
Details of the violent incident in Sandys parish on Tuesday, May 27 were made public for the first time yesterday by the Police.
According to a spokesman, the 17-year-old victim reported that he was walking to Somerset Primary School to pick up his younger sister when he was approached on foot by an unknown man.
"The suspect made various demands of the victim, who denied his requests," said the spokesman. "Once at the school, the teenager was approached by two men on a silver motorcycle.
The motorcycle's passenger was the initial unknown man who approached the 17-year-old. Both suspects demanded cash from the victim, who refused their requests.
"The suspects then allegedly rode the cycle into the youth, knocking him to the ground and running over his right leg.
"The initial suspect then took the victim's wallet, before both suspects made good their escape on the motorcycle."
The teenager was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment but has since been discharged.
He has described the main suspect, who rode pillion on the motorcycle, as a light brown-skinned male, approximately six feet tall of medium build with short black hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt, beige 'Dickies' pants, black sneakers and appeared to be in his late teens or early 20s.
The second suspect, who rode the cycle, is described as wearing a silver helmet and a light-coloured jacket.
The Police spokesman said inquiries were ongoing yesterday but no arrests had been made.
He was unable to state why news of the incident was not made public until a week after it occurred.
