Telecom laws passed
business to competition Last year the Telecommunications Act was passed back by the Senate to the House of Assembly with an amendment to discuss.
On Wednesday it passed the Senate -- with more than a dozen amendments introduced by Government.
Sen. Gary Pitman (UBP) said telecommunications was a dynamic industry which was constantly changing.
He added: "The Act will need amending as we move from a monopolistic to a competitive environment. This Act is designed to open the telecommunications business to competition.'' Sen. Terry Lister (PLP) said: "The Bill before us is one we support and we have taken a very close look at it.'' He said the PLP appreciated that the telecommunications arena was a "moving target'' and he asserted that the bill brought before the Senate last year was "out of order because it was improperly and poorly drafted''.
