Tourist injured in mugging

A tourist robbed yesterday morning in Dockyard needed surgery when an attacker injured her hand in an attempt to get money.

A spokesperson for King Edward VII Memorial Hospital was unable to give the full extent of the woman's injuries but said she was in stable condition last night after surgery.

According to Police reports, the woman was walking in the vicinity of Snorkel Park around 1 a.m. when she was approached by a stranger with a bladed weapon.

The attacker a brown skinned male, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and of stocky build, demanded money and a struggle took place. In the end, her hand was sliced and she needed to be taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment; her attacker escaped.

According to the victim, the man was wearing a white- T-shirt and dark coloured pants, had an afro, was clean shaven and had a round face.

Inquires into this incident are underway and police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.
