Trio admit burglary charges

Three men accused of an aggravated burglary and serious assault while armed with a gun, knife and bottle have pleaded guilty to lesser charges.

Troy Burgess, 21, Detre Ford, 16, and Clarke Fox, 17, stole goods totalling $13,600 in value during a house raid in Curving Avenue, Pembroke, on June 17.

They denied committing aggravated burglary while armed with weapons but admitted less serious charges of straightforward burglary yesterday the day their Supreme Court trial was due to begin.

The items taken during the raid were $5,000 cash, a gold chain, a gold pendant, a gold and diamond earring, five bracelets, a laptop computer and two PlayStation computer games.

The trio was also accused of wounding 21-year-old Jahdean Gibbons during the incident, with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

They denied this, but pleaded guilty to lesser charges of unlawful wounding.

When the case first came before Magistrates' Court in June, prosecutor Cindy Clarke stated that Mr. Gibbons required 14 stitches and staples in his head. However, no details of the crime were given in court yesterday.

The teenagers were further charged with conspiring to carry a firearm with criminal intent, with Burgess alone also accused of carrying a firearm or imitation firearm with criminal intent. They denied those charges.

Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Michael McColm told Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves the prosecution was satisfied with the guilty pleas entered, and asked for rest of the charges to lie on file.

The judge remanded Burgess, of Princess Street, Pembroke, Ford, of Cashew City Road, St. George's and Fox, of Happy Valley Lane, Pembroke, back into custody while pre-sentence reports are completed.

A date for the sentencing will be fixed when they come back to court on December 1.

Meanwhile, a 15-year-old boy from Pembroke, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, also faces charges over the same matter. He's due to go on trial at Youth Court on November 18.
