Woman gets driving ban four years after incident

A woman received a $1,000 fine for an unresolved impaired driving charge dating back more than four years ago.

Lawyer Mark Pettingill told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that his client, 40-year-old Stephanie Dickenson, had not dealt with the matter because she thought he and her family were handling the matter.

She was charged with driving while impaired on February 12, four years ago on Wilkinson Avenue in Hamilton Parish.

Magistrates' Court heard from Crown counsel Robert Welling that around 4.10 a.m. residents in the area reported a single vehicle accident to Police.

Police later arrived to find the car, which had struck and damaged a wall, but with no occupants.

After figuring out the car belonged to Dickenson they attempted to contact her at her listed address in Panorama Drive, Hamilton Parish, as well as trying to call her, but were unsuccessful.

Dickenson had moved from that address and Police later found her at her Crystal Cave Road, Hamilton Parish address.

While giving her statement Police noticed her eyes were red and glazed and she smelled of intoxicant and asked her if she had been drinking.

Dickenson said: "Yeah, I had a few drinks earlier in the day."

She was arrested and taken to St. George's Police station for breath samples, which read 107 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood the legal limit being 80 milligrams.

Mr. Warner fined her $1,000 and disqualified her from driving for 12 months.
