Woman injured in escape bid
from a two-storey building to escape Police.
Police yesterday said the unidentified woman jumped from the Ministry of Telecommunications' Golinsky Building on Reid Street, after climbing a wall in an exercise area of Hamilton Police Station.
The woman was in Police custody on an undisclosed matter for questioning and seized her chance to "escape lawful custody'' while officers were attending another matter.
The woman made her way across the roof of the building, jumped, and landed on the Reid Street sidewalk.
She is in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment for two suspected broken legs.
The spokesman said how the woman escaped the confines of Hamilton Police Station is under investigation.
Police, ambulance, and Fire Service personnel attended the scene.
The Police spokesman said all people being detained at the station are given short exercise breaks periodically during questioning.
