Zenith passengers fined

George Berna, of Folcroft, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to the charges of importing cannabis as well as being in possession of the illegal substance which landed him with a $1,500 fine.
On June 22, the ship's security officers led local Police to Berna's cabin on the cruise liner Zenith . Narcotics officers found several small bags of cannabis during a search.
By the end of the search the officers found that Berna had 14.9 grammes of cannabis in his possession.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis gave Berna the maximum fine of $1,000 for being in possession of the drug. And on the second count of importing cannabis into the Island, Berna received a fine of $500.
Two other Zenith cruise ship passengers were found in possession of cannabis in separate incidents last Tuesday. In both cases the offenders were caught by local Police outside Number One Shed on Front Street.
Forty-four-year-old Robert Eick, of New Jersey, admitted possessing 1.44 grammes of the illicit drug and was fined $250.
Eighteen-year-old Matthew Faulkner, who was travelling with his stepmother and father, pleaded guilty to possession of two homemade cigarettes, containing 1.11 grammes of cannabis.
Apologising to the court, Faulkner said the incident has caused him to decide to turn his life around.
Mr. Francis ordered him to pay a $150 fine.
