Three young Bermudians are working in London at Government's London Office as part of the Summer Employment Programme.
Trent Lightbourne, Mica Murray and Aliyyah Ahad were chosen from among other members of the Summer Programme to and will spend a total of five weeks in London.
Ms Ahad and Ms Murray attended with the office's lead representative Kimberly Durrant at the Women In Diplomatic Service annual general meeting and were able to observe the election of Joan Rwaybomere, the Ugandan High Commissioner to the UK as chairman of the WIDS.
The internship includes a tour of the Foreign and Commonwealth head office including meeting with the head of the Overseas Territories Directorate, Colin Roberts; a tour of Parliament and a meeting with the All Party Parliamentary Group of MPs with an interest in Bermuda; and a secondment for one week at Butterfield Private Bank. At the end of the internship, the trio will prepare a presentation to the London Office team on the Island's relationship with the UK.
Yesterday, Premier Dr. Ewart Brown said of the Internship: "This exposure can only bring benefits to these young people. This Government will continue to work hard to provide every opportunity to make our young people citizens of the world."
Ms Murray is studying Public Relations at Mount Saint Vincent University. Ms Ahad is studying Political Science and Sociology at the University of Toronto and Mr. Lightbourne is studying Finance and Economics at Andrews University.
