Bottled water 'smell' concern
Bottles of Syfo water briefly disappeared from some store shelves on Friday after customers complained of a "strange smell."
While tests on the water showed it to still be safe, Butterfield and Vallis chose to err on the side of caution and swap the bottles in several stores.
Ed Sousa of Butterfield and Vallis' Customer Products Division said: "It was the damnedest thing.
"We had a few customers complain that bottles they had purchased had a strange smell and an earthy flavour. We tested the water on the Island, and it passed all the test for drinking water, but we traded the bottles just to be on the safe side.
"It's not a true recall. It's something we did voluntarily in the interest of the consumer and the brand."
Higher than normal termperatures during shipping may have been a factor, according to a representatve of Syfo, in Florida.
