Breaking News: Retail sales fall

The value of total retail sales in Bermuda was down in October, according to figures released this afternoon by Government.

Gross retail sales turnover was $94.8 million — a drop of 0.3 percent from October last year, according to the Department of Statistics.

However, after adjusting for the annual retail sales rate of inflation, measured at 6.4 percent in October, the volume of retail sales fell by 6.3 percent — the sixth consecutive month of declines in the volume of sales activity.

With the exception of food stores, service stations, and liquor stores all other sectors of the index reported a decline in year-over-year sales for the month.
