Footballer on misdemeanour charge in US

A Bermuda football player was charged with a misdemeanour theft offence in the US.Yesterday, <I>The Royal Gazette</I> incorrectly reported that Tahj Bell was charged with stealing $4,000 worth of electronic goods from his Connecticut boarding school based on an inaccurate report in the Republican-American Litchfield newspaper.The 18-year-old was actually charged with fourth degree larceny for allegedly stealing an i-Pod phone, play-station and laptop at the South Kent School. Fourth degree larceny is for theft of goods valued between $501 and $1,000.

Yesterday, The Royal Gazette incorrectly reported that Tahj Bell was charged with stealing $4,000 worth of electronic goods from his Connecticut boarding school based on an inaccurate report in the Republican-American Litchfield newspaper.

The 18-year-old was actually charged with fourth degree larceny for allegedly stealing an i-Pod phone, play-station and laptop at the South Kent School. Fourth degree larceny is for theft of goods valued between $501 and $1,000.

He was not required to enter a plea at the time.

The goalkeeper is a member of the Under-23 national squad. He's represented the Island against Trinidad, Jamaica, and teams from the Capital Area Soccer League in Raleigh, North Carolina. He also plays locally for Premiership Division side Somerset Eagles.

He will appear before the court on April 7 and was released on a promissory note that he would return to the US for his trial.
