The national park — at one point in history a key part of Bermuda's defence — has been rearmed as part of a Government plan to preserve the Island's military heritage.

A replica of one of Fort Scaur's original guns has been created, and Mr. DeSilva showed how it worked by using it to launch a firework.

The Minister without Portfolio also gave people a history lesson on the Moncrieff disappearing gun mount, which he said was the only one in the world, although a similar one was found in Plymouth, England.

"I would like to believe that this is another example of this Government's commitment to preserving our island's history and of looking for innovative ways to expand opportunities for cultural tourism," he said.
