Handbag snatched on Dundonald Street

Police are investigating a handbag snatch on Dundonald Street in which a thief made off with cash and personal items.

The incident occurred at approximately 11 p.m.

According to a Police spokesperson the victim, a 28-year-old Pembroke woman, was walking along Queen Street when an unknown man "approached her and befriended her".

"The Pembroke woman then walked with the man to Dundonald Street to meet an acquaintance of hers; however, when they reached Dundonald Street around 11 p.m. on Monday, the suspect grabbed the victim's handbag and made good his escape on foot."

The spokesperson said the woman was not injured.

The suspect is believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s and is described as approximately 5ft7in, of slim build with a low haircut. At the time of the incident he was wearing dark coloured clothing.

Inquiries into the incident are underway.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.
