A bursary has been created in honour of a Saltus Grammar School trustee who died in September.

Bill Jack graduated from the school in 1977 and served on the Saltus Board from 2005 until his death.

The Trustees of Saltus Grammar School and Deloitte Bermuda, of which Mr. Jack was a partner, are to fund the Bill Jack Memorial Bursary from September 2010.

It will cover the tuition fees for a Bermudian student for the two years of the Saltus Graduate Years programme.

Announcing the funding on Founder's Day, Saltus Trustee Robin Hamill said: "Bill was a devoted family man and keenly interested in education. He served on the Saltus Board from 2005 until his passing and was very involved with all aspects of student life."

Roger Titterton, Senior Partner at Deloitte, said: "Bill made a great contribution to our firm and was one of our audit partners.

"He often reminded us that the foundation he received at Saltus prepared him to face the challenges of university. Bill held a B. Comm. (Hons) from Dalhousie University (Nova Scotia, Canada) and was a chartered accountant in Bermuda and Canada.

"We believe that it is most fitting that our Partners agreed to fund the Bill Jack Memorial Bursary, which will cover the cost of tuition for a student with demonstrated financial need for each year of the two-year Saltus Graduate Years programme.

"This will allow these students, who otherwise would not have had the opportunity, to attend the school to which Bill attributed so much of his own success."
